Brandon Beyer

Brandon Beyer received his M.S. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Organic chemistry in 2006.  He has spent the entirety of his 16 year career in HI&I and Industrial Water Treatment applications.  

He started his career with Ecolab/Nalco in research and development with a focus on laundry product development.  He spent several years in manufacturing with Dow Chemical supporting reverse osmosis membrane and element production. 

Most recently he has transitioned to customer-facing technical support, first with Italmatch Chemicals and now with Univar Solutions as an application development specialist supporting North America.

Sam Costanzo

Sam Costanzo is an Associate Research Scientist for Dow Personal Care. Sam joined Dow in 2010, and he spent the first 8 years of his Dow career in Silicones R&D. During his time in R&D, Sam focused on formulating silicone materials into water-based systems for both industrial and personal care applications. In 2019 Sam transitioned to his current job role, where he supports the technical needs of Dow personal care customers in the central United States. Sam also serves as an application technology leader for Dow’s skin care segment, where he helps shape the technologystrategy for skin and sun care ingredients.

Sam is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science and Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Management. Sam is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and has been a member of the SCC since 2019.

Vanessa DeMarco

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry Concentration

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Vanessa is a Product Development Chemist in the Household, Industrial, and Institutional Cleaning group at Stepan. Her background includes working with business management and manufacturing at Videojet, Danaher to formulate new inks to meet industry requirements and expand the company’s portfolio. She developed methods to evaluate experimental formulations and is a co-inventor of a thermal inkjet ink for cold applications – the first of its kind in the industry. At Stepan, she works with structured liquid technology and is the group’s expert on rust removal applications. She is proficient in SaferChoice and eco-friendly formulation development. She also utilizes Design of Experiments to evaluate new materials in hard surface cleaners. She collaborates with customers to develop creative and sustainable solutions and assess developing trends in consumer interests.

Mara Crespo-Webb

Mara Crespo-Webb is Key Account Manager at Croda. In her 12 years at Croda and Sederma, she has served in several sales and business development roles across North America as well as Latin America. 

She has a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from NJIT. She will be presenting on behalf of Dr. Jasmine Leong, describing Croda’s “SenStories Selector Tool for Predictive Ingredient (O/W Emulsifier) Selection for Total Consumer Alignment”.

Mark Miller

Mark Miller is an Accomplished Business Leader with over thirty years of experience in the process industries of steel and chemicals.   His background in the chemical industry has included roles with manufacturers and distributors with an emphasis on surface chemistry, pigments, surfactants, microbial control and bio-actives across multiple market segments.  Prior to coming to Nagase Specialty Materials (NSM) in 2017, Miller led the global LONZA Consumer Care business and was also previously responsible for the BASF Care Chemicals business in NA after the Cognis acquisition.

A 23-year member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) and former Board member of the American Cleaning Institute (ACI), Mark has worked closely with his colleagues in R&D and Marketing throughout his career to deliver efficacious solutions to Consumer Goods companies in pursuit of market demands.

Mark is currently leading the NSM enterprise and Heads Sustainability in the Americas for Nagase.

Laura Mills

Laura Mills, Sharon Laboratories, Israel Business Development, North America

Over 25 years of Consumer Care ingredient and specialty chemicals experience working for Lubrizol (formerly BFGoodrich) and Croda in various senior commercial roles focused on territory management, project development, marketing, global account management, with 3 years as an industry consultant working with numerous global ingredient manufacturers, personal care raw material distributors, as well as end consumer brands.

Durant Scholz

Durant Scholz, President and cofounder of Active Concepts, LLC has a degree in Biochemistry from University of Massachusetts at Amherst. 

His career began as a Fabergé chemist. Following tenure in Clinique’s Skin Care department at Estée Lauder, Durant became Technical Marketing Director at Brooks  Industries. 

Managing domestic and international marketing, sales, and product development.
In 2000, Durant founded Active Concepts, a multinational company with facilities in Lincolnton, N.C., Milan, Italy, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Brian Yang

Brian Yang is an Applied Technology Manager with Evonik Nutrition & Care, Care Solutions Business Line at the Business & Innovation Center in Richmond, Virginia. His work focuses on new product and formulation development, performance evaluation, claims substantiation, and technical services. Brian Yang joined Evonik Corporation in 2002. Prior to joining Evonik, he worked in R&D capacity at Clairol and Rhone-Poulenc (Rhodia, now Solvay) where the property, performance and application of surfactants were evaluated. He also investigated the intrinsic properties of hair, explored the interaction/modification and the effect of ingredients/products on the properties of hair, which led to claims substantiation and new formulation with improved performance. Brian received MS in Chemical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He continued his research as a postdoc at Clarkson University where his research was focused on the field of surfactant association structures and its phase behavior such as microemulsion, emulsion and lyotropic liquid crystal.
