www.midwestscc.org version 4.0
By now you’ve no doubt noticed the changes we’ve made to the site. If not, you must be new! Either way, we’ve prepared a short tutorial on the new design and features.
Navigation
Every page on the site now uses the same right-hand navigation menu. There are links to all the major areas on the site. Although the site is designed to not require navigation back to the home page, this can still be accomplished by clicking anywhere in the header area at the top of the page.
Search
Above the navigation menu is a new search bar. It can be used to find any text that appears on the site. Please note that text included in attached files such as presentations and the e-SCCoop newsletters is not searchable.
News
The home page of the site is populated via the ‘news’ section. The home page is the highlights – for a full list of articles (which may or may not be longer than what is seen on the home page) go to the ‘news’ section via the navigation on the right.
Events
While we will have news articles promoting events, the fastest way to access the full list of coming events is using the right hand navigation. This section of the site is split into ‘Upcoming’ and ‘Past’ events. If you go to a past event you can check to see if any educational materials or photos from the event were posted. We try to obtain rights to speaker presentations, but please note that not all speakers consent to share their presentation. In such an event, if you contact the speaker directly he or she may be able to assist you.
Event Photos
Although event photos can be access via ‘Past Events’ in the ‘events’ area, there is also a direct link provided.
e-SCCoop
Starting with our June 2008 issue and going forward we will have electronic copies of our chapter newsletter available online. We are in the process of creating a system for opting out of the print copy, thereby saving countless innocent trees. Be warned, however, that these are 5-10 MB PDF files, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if you have a slower connection.
RSS feeds
RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is a way of receiving articles or ‘feeds’ in an RSS aggregator or ‘feed reader’ like Google Reader, Bloglines, or most mail clients. We have RSS feeds for items added to ‘news’, ‘events’, and ‘e-SCCoop’.
