Cosmetics and Confections: Friends or Foes - Robert F. Boutin, Executive V.P/Principle of Knechtel Research Sciences Inc.
Abstract:Are there similarities between the Cosmetics and the Confectionery Industries? More than you would think. Robert Boutin will bring us insight into the Beauty and Candy Markets, showing how the two use the same fundamental sciences but with industrial specifics. He will consider ingredients, equipment, claims and functionality with actual executions and examples of the products currently on the market. Mechanisms such as encapsulation, aeration, co-crystallization and agglomeration are reviewed as well as such unique applications as dissolvable films, flavored fats, color-changing, and foaming or fizzing. In addition Robert will discuss new technologies such as Fuisz and Beta Dextrins.
Speaker’s Bio:Robert is currently Executive Vice President \ Principal of Knechtel Research Sciences, Inc., the largest confectionary consulting firm in the world, focused on food and pharmaceuticals. Robert has more than 30 years of experience in the confectionary industry and has held various positions with the Illinois Institute of Technology, Sunmark, Wm.Wrigley, Jr.Co. and Wilton Enterprises. Besides being the inventor/ co-inventor of eight patents, Robert has presented lectures and papers for the AACT candy course at Triton College, University of Wisconsin / NCA confectionery school and other industry gatherings including the AOCS and the PMCA (Pennsylvania Manufacturing Confectioners Association) Education and Training Committee. He is affiliated with the Institute of Food Technology (IFT), National Confectioners Association (NCA), American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT), and the NCA Advisory Board and is a Scientific Advisory Council member of the Refrigeration Research Foundation.
In addition to his expertise in confectioneries, Robert has authored / co-authored assorted papers in the fields of Aerospace Research and Artificial Implantable Organs (heart and liver), as well as other medical related areas. Robert enjoys sports, especially skiing, and aviation both as an instructor and as a Professional Corporate Charter Pilot.
