Description
Applying Material Science to Personal Care Product Development - David He, PhD.
ABSTRACT
Material science plays the important role in Personal Care product development by providing guidance for design and selection of key ingredients, and establishing formulation principles. In this presentation, we discuss the four major areas of material science which are relevant to personal care application. These areas are mechanical properties, surface/interphase properties, phase behaviors, and flow properties. Examples are presented to demonstrate how to apply the fundamentals of material physics, and property characterization to guide the molecular synthesis and application development.
SPEAKER BIO
Dr. He is a material scientist in product development for Personal Care Business in AkzoNobel’s Surface Chemistry Division. After spending five years in GE’s Global Research Center as a staff scientist in the areas of engineering plastics and optical media, Dr. He moved to National Starch and Chemical Company’s Adhesive Division for personal care related adhesive development. Later, he joined Personal Care Product Development group. He joined the Surface Chemistry Division in early 2008 with the AkzoNobel’s acquisition of ICI. He has a diverse experience in material science and product development. Dr. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
