Speaker/Topic

Deconstructing Personal Care Products - Ronald L. Koch, Ph.D, UIC Medical Center

Abstract

A common exercise for pharmacy students is to simulate the formulation of an over-the-counter medicinal, herbal, or cosmetic product with the goal to eventually use that product in a future dosage formulation. This exercise presents the pharmacy student with the exciting opportunity to develop problem solving techniques needed to solve the formulation problem they have selected. In addition, this work allows the student to see how different, but related, sciences share basic information and it allows the student to consider related scientific fields as potential future employment opportunities. An overview of this formulation simulation work and the educational, personal, and professional benefits to the pharmacy student will be presented.}
